About Me

Hi, I am Bethany, and I believe that taking care of your mental health is an important part of your everyday life. I work with individual adults through an Existentialist therapy approach to address life issues such as grief and loss, parenting challenges, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and military-related concerns. Existential therapy is just a fancy way of saying that we often explore the underlying questions about meaning, death, fear of the unknown, isolation, and the freedoms we choose.

My counseling services are tailored to each client and his/her/their individual perspective. I use a variety of practices and interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Gestalt Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, as well as mindfulness and expressive arts techniques. I am a Navy veteran who understands the nature of military culture, career transition, and conflict.

I have my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Marymount University. I received my Bachelor’s in Science from the U.S. Naval Academy and flew all over the world as a Naval Flight Officer for 10 years. I also have experience with special needs children, IEPs, and the complex struggles that parents of these children face. Personally, I am mom to 2 elementary aged kids and have a (recently retired) military spouse.

As a Resident in Counseling, I am providing services at Time and Tide Counseling, LLC, under the supervision of Benta Sims, LPC (VA license # 0701004818) and Kristin Slacin, LPC (VA license # 0701004408). You may contact Benta Sims at benta@bentasimslpc.com or 703-244-9232, and Kristin Slacin at kristinslacin@yahoo.com or 703-407-1980.
